Grief

‘Oh, good grief!’, said Charlie Brown With a sigh and with a frown But can grief really be good Can it be well understood?

Grief is our response to loss It may make us feel quite cross Grieving someone who has left May mean we are quite bereft

Grief is shown in many ways And can last for num’rous days Theory says – seven stages And each one could last ages

First the shock when we deny And mightn’t let ourself cry Then there’s the pain and the guilt Feelings that are so in-built

Third may come anger and ire We’ve lost something we desire Next we may become depressed Our soul is sad, not at rest

Later things may upward turn As for improvement we yearn Slowly our feelings work through And reconstruct life anew

Finally time to accept And learn what to now expect Freeing energy that’s bound So then new hope can found

Maybe grief itself’s not good But given time we all could Find that we now have release With the help of our God’s peace
