Stop and Listen

In the quiet, in the still What can you hear? Which sounds are real? And which ones are in your mind?

List’ning, trying to be still The clock ticking The fridge rumbling And outside engines throbbing

Yes, in your mind Thoughts hurry and they scurry This way and that Making it hard to listen

What might you hear? What might you think? Does thinking stop you list’ning? Or list’ning stop you thinking?

Can you hear the still, small voice Beyond earthquake, wind and fire? Can you listen? Listen caref’ly
