Trying to Sleep!

How I wish I could sleep But sadly I just keep Finding I’m awake, then Can’t re-settle again

Maybe it’s ‘cos I’m hot That’s a problem I’ve got For everywhere we stay Just has a thick duvet

Maybe it’s being away Excitement every day Means I just cannot rest Despite doing my best

Maybe it’s all the change My body finds it strange Becomes a little vexed Wonders what’ll happen next

Maybe it’s what I ate Upon my dinner plate For not all of the food Is necessarily good

Maybe it’s all the noise Coming from girls and boys Pigeons, gulls, other birds E’en tho’ they have no words

Or maybe it’s just me How I happen to be But I am quite perturbed That my sleep’s so disturbed
