My Garden

Mary, MaryPhoto of seedling trays Quite contrary How does your garden grow? With tomatoes And potatoes And onion sets all in a row

You may know Not for show That I tend to plant and sow But to eat With my meat Most of the produce that I grow

Any potPhoto of seedlings That I’ve got A seed tray can form Our windowsill Fits the bill To keep seedlings warm

Then waitPhoto of potato and rhubarb plants Anticipate Until the first shoots appear They grow Very slow It’s hard work plants to rear

With care We prepare Lots of different spaces We need To weed Before transplanting to those places

Add our compostPhoto of nobbly strawberry It doesn’t cost Or not in financial terms Green waste in To the bin Magically transformed by worms

Time passes Life advances Nature takes its course Watering Nurturing God is the mighty source

In the groundPhoto of potato and onion plants Goodness found Helping them grow healthily Sunshine Over time They’re getting bigger stealthily

But greenfly And blackfly They really do me annoy Slug and snail Oh, I wail! As plants they try to destroy

But broad beansPhoto of runner beans Runner beans All are now growing well Gooseberries Strawberries Produce a sweet, fragrant smell

Mange tout Lettuces too In the greenhouse reside Peppers – chilli And parsley Side by side there abide

Not lethargyPhoto of broad beans But energy Into the garden you invest A good wait-er As it’s later You reap your reward at harvest
