Autumn Leaves

Autumn is a time of changeAutumnal view on Station Road, South Cerney Take tree colours – a full range Red and yellow, brown and green So many colours I’ve seen

When the summer fades away And it gets darker each day Then the leaves may start to ‘turn’ Or may look ready to burn

Once they were just shades of greenAutumnal view at the former Mangotsfield Station But slowly, as if unseen It’s like they have all been dyed The choice of colours is wide

Bright oranges and yellow And then some more mellow Brown, red or maybe russet Golden, purple or scarlet

For a while the leaves hang on Even when their greenness has gone But when the strong winds blow You can often watch them go

Fluttering down to the ground Almost without any sound Forming a carpet of leaf Hiding all that’s underneath

When you up to the tree stare You will find that it’s now bare All its leaves it did divest Ready for its winter’s rest

Tho’ some trees don’t change at all Those include the fir tree tall Which is known as evergreen Same colour it’s always been
