Yorkshire Holiday

We’re on our travels once againPhoto of black cat beyond track at Bristol Parkway So let me now start this refrain To give some edited highlights Of this, our trip - the sounds and sights

At Bristol Parkway we were satPhoto of Greenhead Park Miniature Railway When we espied a sleek, black cat Beyond the platform and the track In the foliage, at the back

To Greenhead Park we later wentPhoto of ginger cat at Meadowhal station The railway closed at four, which meant We had a rather hurried stroll That on our feet did take its toll

But as the station came in view We could see there was still a queue So even though we arrived late We got a ride, after a wait

One morning with us we did takePhoto of Sherwood Forest Railway logo] The previous day’s leftover cake But unfortunately ’twas that Come lunchtime it was squashed quite flat

You need a ticket on the train But Luke, one day, did ascertain If you show one for t’other way Does not mean anything they’ll say

(I probably should have explainedPhoto of a robin on the picnic bench, Sherwood Forest Railway For Luke, a ticket we’d obtained But when they wanted it to see ‘Twas not with him, instead with me)

When we changed trains at Meadowhall What did Phil spot upon a wall? Yes, you guessed it, another cat Then on the stairway, laid out flat

A special place of interestPhoto of Central Tramway, Scarborough Was visiting Sherwood Forest And tho’ Robin Hood was not in We saw a red-breasted robin

From the window of our temp flat I saw another ginger cat And later, way up in a tree We all a woodpecker did see

In Scarborough we bought some giftsPhoto of Scarborough beach and castle And travelled on both its cliff lifts But when we boarded, I did frown As it cost more to go up than down

The lift was full going that way And one lady, to us, did say ‘Sorry for the smell of my fish’ Presumably her supper dish

Around the great city of YorkPhoto of The Cat Gallery, York We had a very pleasant walk But there something made me stop A special cat souvenir shop

We journeyed up Abraham’s Heights Saw the most magnificent sights Then wandered through the caverns small Tho’ I’d no need to stoop at all

At Manchester Road in BurnleyPhoto of Heights of Abraham cable car There was lots of hurly burly Which we think we could prob’ly blame On the forthcoming Arsenal game

Things mostly went without a hitch Until I turned off the wrong switch From then on the boiler was dead So no hot shower before bed

Because the Bristol train was latePhoto of scenery from Heights of Abraham cable car We avoided a longer wait And to avoid further delay Crammed into the train from Parkway
