That was the year that was – 2022
Would I be right to suspect
That a poem you expect?
As that’s how I us’lly choose
To update you on our news!
It’s a mystery as to why
The years so quickly fly by!
So, what things did we all do
This year, twenty-twenty-two?
Of course, we’d our jobs to do
Miles to cycle, just a few
And by train – it’s great outdoors
Plus gard’ning, church and household chores
In February Luke took a plane To Germany, not to Spain He enjoyed travelling around Again, in June, but work-bound
Meanwhile, we, for Phil’s birthday
Down to Portsmouth went to stay
Enjoyed this historic port
And to Lymington a train caught
For Mary’s birthday a ‘flight’ – Hovercraft to the Isle of Wight Then far too much bus for Phil Oh, that they’d more railways still!
In May, Phil and Mary spent
A week away down in Kent
Ample castles, sea and sand
I think most things went as planned
Next off to the Em’rald Isle For this we’d waited a while! Visited the Giant’s Causeway Beautiful sights every day
At times, because of the strikes
We rode no trains, just our bikes
Including on Luke’s birthday
When we’d hoped to be away
Many times we went to Stoke It became a running joke As the best flat to afford Was actually in Stafford
In the Autumn trips galore
To visit sick sister-in-law
Chance to see some London views
Right near St Bartholomews!
Thus the year drew to a close
And who knows where the time goes!?
Now it just remains to say
Have a happy Christmas Day!
