Sunderland break

Here are some highlights from our tripPhoto of Queen’s Park Miniature Railway, Chesterfield - Train at station Whilst the more boring bits I’ll skip At Chesterfield we stopped to eat And Puffin Billy we did meetPhoto of Queen’s Park, Chesterfield - Duck on the tracks Before continuing as planned To end the day in Sunderland

Friday popped north ‘cross the borderPhoto of Edinburgh tram - View on route And mainly that was in order To travel on Edinburgh’s trams Though line’s shorter than Nottingham’sPhoto of Edinburgh - Obelisk and castellar building By a specific new tram stop We popped off to the hobby shop

Then after we’d found ourselves foodPhoto of Sunderland - Queen Alexandra Bridge with lights at night Visited museum of childhood I recognised lots of the toys And games Phil and Luke played as boysPhoto of South Shields - Tynemouth Priory and Castle We’re definitely at the stage Where we’re starting to feel our age

On Saturday we used metroPhoto of Lakeshore Railroad, South Shields - Train at station To get where we wanted to go A small train took us round the lake Then short walk to the sea did takePhoto of Newcastle-upon-Tyne - River Tyne and several bridges. We were traveling all that day We’re quite happy with it that way

On Sunday ourselves did availPhoto of Weardale Railway - Green bubble car at Stanhope under bridge A trip on railway at Weardale There was some lovely countryside For almost the whole of our ridePhoto of Weardale Railway - Wolsingham station sign and flowers And whilst at Stanhope biding time We saw a cat upon their line

’twas on Monday on our route backPhoto of Preston Park Museum, Stockton - Victorian shopping street We did take a little side-track At Eaglescliffe did disembark To a museum in Preston ParkPhoto of Teesside Small Gauge Railway, Preston Park - Train with guard dog We got drinks and cakes there to eat From tea room in Victorian Street

Nearby Teesside Small Gauge RailwayPhoto of Sunderland accommodation - Mary and Manx cat Were operating trains that day As the engine came out the yard We saw a dog acting as guard And so our break came to an end Homeward our merry way did wend

The best thing ‘bout our stay was that House owners had a friendly cat I think he’d come from Isle of Man Of both of these I am a fan He had a lot of furry fur And when he saw us he did purr

He would across the garden pass Avoiding all the dewy grass Then he’d jumped up onto the chair And slowly lick and wash his hair He wasn’t slim but quite chubby Although his tail was all stubby
