Our not-Lincoln holiday
I had been thinkin' For our trip to Lincoln It would be quite ace Just to stay in one place
But ’twasn’t to be They part cancelled on me I had to re-think What we would do in Lincs
Things weren’t set in stone So our plans weren’t all blown We’d still get away But diff’rent places stay
By bus from Derby To the Golden Valley Pacer *2 on one track And Simplex *3 round the back
Lincoln just one day North Scarle not far away Their railway went round The village cricket ground
Then more bus and walk To train around the park Back to Rotherham Upon the Supertram
There down a child’s slide I did most gracef’lly glide Before we moved on Though we hadn’t stayed long
A light rail journey At Cleethorpes by the sea Tho’ there was no doubt The tide was way, way out
Where would we alight To spend the next two nights? Doncaster Lakeside Was where we did reside
We had a quick mull Then chose to go to Hull With buildings most grand Museum visits planned
How d’you get clothes clean With no washing machine? Ah, home we could ‘pop’ It’s just an extra stop
Then London for fun Ride to the Overrun *1 Most trains never went So tour they did invent
Belton Estate’s land Big house on it does stand With porc’lain ornate Paintings to celebrate
Skegness for more beach By bus the railway reach Butlins disembark Walk through caravan park
Then back on a bus Where there was quite some fuss As it did swerve And us it did un-nerve
So soon time to head Back home to our own bed Though not that direct Well, what do you expect?!
