The North West
We journeyed up north to Carlisle
Stayed in a flat for a while
Trav’lled many a mile
In Penrith we went out to eat
Our lunch plus bakery treat
They’d quaint buildings t’were sweet
We made our very merry way
Down the track to Morecambe Bay
On a grey Saturday
I always love to see seaside
And watch the incoming tide
As on the train I ride
In the park they call Happy Mount
Another trip that would count
Then a rush to dismount
At Lightburn Park in Ulverston
This time there were trains to run
Saw a tower I’ll mention
The Eden Valley’s rolling stock
Came as a bit of a shock
“You’re in the South”, they mock
No trains were running at Stainmore But station was open to explore With cats, which I adore
Millerbeck Railway - family one But sometimes they let you come And join them having fun
Ever heard of Pollokshaws East? It’s a place where I would least Expect an ice cream feast
On the Settle and Carlisle line The weather started off fine Even the sun did shine
Threkeld’s museum of mining Showed years of refining The talk explained timing
In the afternoon we did take A cruise round Windermere lake There was next to no wake
Through Lancashire we chose to range This made a bit of a change Cat on train seat was strange
The bus went o’er hill and through vale Reaching Alston, South Tynedale Steam engine on their rail
This week one thing that we did keep On seeing was loads of sheep In dales, on mountains steep
Sunday was bright no chance of rain Good to do Hammond’s Pond train Once round and then again
All good things must come to an end As homeward our way did wend Done all we did intend
