What is a Psalm? A poem, a prayer, a song More than just writing It comes from the heart The writer’s deepest cry Full of emotion All kinds of emotions Pouring out to God To whoever will listen Praising and praying Loving and weeping Swinging from thanks to pleas Open Bare Honest Crying for help Crying for fairness Many cries, many wails But also thanks and excitement and glory and honour Shouts of joy, shouts of jubilation ‘Shout to the Lord, all the earth’! It is deep It is within And it is without A cry A sigh A mere breath There is a Psalm for every occasion ‘Praise the Lord, oh my soul!’
