Love in Action

Let love be true, let love be real It’s more than something you might feel Make it an action you intend Rather than just being pretend

Do not tolerate all that’s wrong To rid yourselves of it do long But stand up for all that is right To that end, the cause you must fight

Love each other as siblings should Love each other as Jesus would Give honour to one another Rejoice in them as your brother

Do not work just to get your pay That is never the best way With hearts full of joy serve the Lord As you try to apply His word

So, what for you is the Lord’s plan? Doing things that only you can Wait until the time is just right And in your work take great delight

Learn to be patient in the wait E’en when it seems a troubled fate And in the waiting learn to pray Then listen for what God will say

Watch out for God’s children in need Be sure their plight you see and heed In your home show them love and care A place to eat or to rest there

Don’t on others a downfall long Even if they do do you wrong Instead ask that God will them bless Rather than wish their lives a mess

Be glad with all those who are glad With those in sorrow do be sad They will appreciate your care If it with them you gladly share

Always try hard to live at peace In that way love and joy increase Don’t make yourself big, or look down Do not take pride in your renown

And be gracious in all you do Working with others not like you Although to you they may seem odd All are equal in sight of God

Do not seek an eye for an eye Or give back evil in reply You should not try to get revenge For the Lord says he will avenge

And there’s a saying that is wise Give love to those who you despise Of them in Proverbs it’s said You’ll heap burning coals on their head

So don’t be overcome by sin For in the end we know good will win In all of this love can be shown In all of this God can be known
